The US Open Begins

The US Open is one of the highlights for the NYC area each summer.  Tennis enthusiasts and those with the money and connections attend this popular event.  I have fond memories of the event and was lucky enough to witness from courtside a great era when USA Mens tennis was on top.  Since the days of Connors, McEnroe, Agassi, Sampras and others I don't think the USA has had as dominant a role.  Here are some shots from around the event for those who haven't been there.
If you're wondering why the dark backgrounds - it is widely known that late day light at the Open can lead to dramatic backlit shots which are a bit different than the standard lighting.  So I tossed in some of those scanned from film.
