Night Activity on the Avenue

There is never a shortage of great photos to grab in the Village at night.  As I wander around with my camera I always want to explore the way the light is working at different times of the day.

Sitting at an outdoor cafe I noticed the guy inside working on his Mac.

Most of these are shot from ISO 400-1600.  The black and white is so darn clean as we've all seen with most of the new cameras today.

Winner winner!  Not.

A street project began around 11pm one night to mill the street and level the pavement.  It was amazing to watch the large machinery work over the avenue as if it was sand on a beach.  In a short three hours they were done with a box in the intersection

Camp Go Away Film Days

Recently I had the pleasure to be part of a three day workshop where photographers were encouraged to get away from their daily grind and enjoy nature and analog shooting.  This may sound like a simple thing - unplug and unwind, right?  Most realize this is easier said than done, so what do you need to get you to really take a step back and release your inner creativity?  That's a personal question for all, but one way to do it is head out to a beautiful setting with little cell coverage and lots of analog subject matter.  The rest just unfolds.  Breathe deep and enjoy nature.

The organizers were the dynamic duo of Chellise and Mike from

The event was held at a wonderful place in Port Jervis NY - if you are looking for a nice getaway the area is scenic and special.  Cedar Lake Estates- http://www.cedarlakesestate.com/

I brought a bunch of film and Instax cameras and there were plenty of other analog toys to use in the scenic campgrounds.

Canon Rebel 2000 - LC-W lomo - 1970 USSR Lomo
Diana - Minolta Srt-101 - Brownie (ansco sure shot)
Holga -The Reporter - Polaroid -Polaroid Spectra - Polaroid SX-70

Equipment from  Foto Care: Hassleblads - Nikon tilt shift
Canon tilt shift - Zeiss Lenses - Profoto Strobes

Fujifilm provided the analog goodies to enjoy
Plenty of FP100C film
Instax Wide Film

Instax 210 Cameras
Instax Mini 90, Mini 25 and Mini 8 camera

Instax Mini Film
Instax Share Printer SP1
Fujicolor 400H, 35mm &120 - Acros 120 film

I also used an XQ1 with an underwater housing for some pool fun.  The camera has a great sensor and the housing makes shooting a breeze.

There were some fun photo opps around the pool for sure.

One adventurous person took to blobbing in the cool foggy day!

The beauty of this shot is that I set the X-T1 on the lifeguard chair and used the Remote Control app and shot an image of us on the doc.  You can see me in red on the right waving.
 An analog Minolta SRT moment.

Caught a shot lit with my flashlight at dusk of Chellise and Mike.

Later in the night Dan from Foto Care brought out some awesome strobe units.
The new Profoto B1 500 AirTTL are amazing and easy to use.

I shot these with the X-T1 by timing the exposure with the photog who was syncing to the B1.  My 8fps made it easier to time the frame.
Easy to see we shot a lot of instant film.  What's not to love??
